I don't carry my MacbookPro out, although I do use it in the studio/shop. MainStage can also run non-Apple AU software, and some of that does heavily load the system. All told, there are 75 GB or so, but I have no need for many of them. Of course, MainStage itself has a very respectable amount of sounds (only a small percentage are automatically included, the rest can be added in groups. Use that to drive the iPad - adds considerably to my variety of sounds. I made a patch which causes it to send MIDI only on a different channel from the one I use for the internal sounds. My church setup is a Kurzweil PC2 and PC3, the PC3 has USB output. Korg Module alone (with all the add-in patches) has over 500 patches, including some dynamite Hammond/Leslie, Rhodes, Wurly, and Ivory acoustic pianos. One comment on Apple vs Android: I use my iPad (and even iPhone) as a music SOURCE, connecting to a MIDI controller by USB (Apple's Camera Adapter) to the Lightning connector.Īpple's devices are much better optimized for use in generating music. In addition to what David mentioned, it would be useful to know what type processor and how much RAM is in the Mac. So, not really sure how much problem there would be in getting the PDF files into the Android, probably depends mostly on how they are sent out. In the Apple world, a lot of the file storage is written into the particular app in use. Neither Apple nor Android uses a traditional PC/Mac style file system, where one can easily browse directories. There are other ways, using various apps. One of the ways to get PDF files into an iPad is by emailing it to yourself, then opening and saving in the iPad. Plus, I'm seeing a decent deal on a tablet that I might need to jump on sooner than later.Īny help or advice is appreciated. Lastly, anyone know if there's any kind of integration between the Music Stand app and Mainstage (or if that's even a thing)? I can always pose more questions to the worship team staff, but I won't be able to practice with them (for the first time) until 5/25. Is there any issue with reading/transferring *.pdf files between an Ipad and an Android device? I'm thinking there are others in the band that use Ipads in addition to the woman I met, but not 100% sure. I don't think I'd mind an Ipad, it'd just be a case of doing what I feel I should be able to do feature-wise and getting used to the terminology. any pros/cons with that choice given what I've mentioned thus far? The app sounds like it has the functionality to link with other devices to sync page turns, but I'm not sure if the band uses that feature or not. I'm thinking I'll need to pick up a tablet and would prefer Android over Ipad. does anyone here have experience with it? I checked out their website and it seems like a decent app, although I have more experience with Mobile Sheets. The app the lady I spoke with was using Planning Center Music Stand. Does anyone else have similar experience with MainStage? Part of me wonders if just needs updating or how often they release bug updates. There were a few times when she'd show me how to save a concert or patch and it didn't necessarily save or you had to do it again, or it'd just crash. Also thanks to everyone here who posts about their experiences, I've been able to at least feel like I've heard about some of the latest-greatest gear (thanks for the SS3 GAS, I think?) and live vicariously through you. Luckily, I at least have some experience with sheet music apps and am relatively tech-savvy and have read up on it some. So I'm about 15 years removed from my previous band experience! Let's just say I was in for a bit of an education to see the M-Audio keyboard connected to a Mac running MainStage. Call it an interview or not, that went well too and it looks like I have a crack at getting back to playing. No big deal, so I went and met with one of the other synth players this past weekend. I auditioned for the piano position and fared pretty well, except they're set at piano and need another synth player in the rotation (although it sounds like I might sub for piano as well). They have positions for a 'piano player' and a 'synth/keys player', which so far as I know amounts to one playing strictly piano parts and the other playing the pad/synth sounds. Long story short, I finally got up the courage (and time) to try out for my church's worship team.
